Midnight Desert

Art Bell returns to midnight radio from the high desert in the Kingdom of Nye. SiriusXM September 16. Crystal Gayle. White Bird. It’s A Beautiful Day. Pretty Ballerina. Bumper music. No call screeners. Uncensored and unafraid. If you’re not a fan, you won’t get any of this. He disappeared in 2010. Long dry spell.

Art’s overnight show kept us sane starting in 1994 when we moved from San Francisco to Northampton. Sleepness nights, getting up at 4:45 a.m. Boston commute. When we found him, he was warning listeners about “noise” in the heartland. Militia militants planning a sinister plot against the government. Predicted something bad was afoot. Oklahoma City followed soon thereafter.

But, it was the crazy callers who compelled us to stay up so late. UFO’s, alien abductions by lizard people and grays. Witches. Yeti. Chupacabra. Yay!

Old New York

Back from a quick round trip. Headed downtown. High-summer fare on Washington Square in Old Greenwich Village. Blue Hill. Not as good as last time. Shockingly short on seasonal produce. Otto Enoteca, Italian train station pizzeria. Gone is the elegant One Fifth, art deco ship’s bar of yesteryear.

New York in the 1860’s, BBC’s second season of Copper is a good one. Five Points, what is now lower Manhattan in the days leading up to Lincoln’s assassination. Corrupt cops, spies, slavery, counterfeiters. Mount Holyoke’s Czitrom historical consultant. Better than Newsroom. Watch that on a different day, as well as Masterpiece’s Endeavour. Sunday nights chock full of choices.

Great reads about old New Amsterdam from 1600’s to the Civil War~ City of Dreams, Beverly Swerling. HeyDay, Kurt Andersen. Downtown, Pete Hamill.

Trek Stir

JeanJean won $30 at the Saratoga track. Birthday horse came in.
Ogilvy got the ETrade account. Happier babies now. Congrats.
Motown’s Jesse Nager hugged NYGiant-Strahan. Upset JoeyPa(n)ts.
Lucky little Prince has a Grandma Carole. Like mAdBen and his cuzins.
Hope BoyGeorge won’t stutter. No matter. He’ll still give a good speech.
Carlos’ weiner not so dangerous it seems. Still won’t leave the hot dog stand. Moose loose in next town, Easthampton. Sweet squash from Merry’s Mum garden. Zucchinetti Colitti  tomorrow.

Moon Baby

Under the Thunder Full Moon, on the last day of Cancer, July 22, Prince of Cambridge arrives. His Daddy Wills was born on the first day of the Sun sign, June 21. Kate a bit late in changing the weekend mood on the links in Scotland. But, baby was smart enough to emerge on a famous GemQueen’s royal birthday.

Name roulette. Francis is Kate’s father’s middle name, as Frances was Diana’s. Pope beat them to it. I’m going with George William Philip Windsor.

Allons Enfants

Or not. Some cannot. Who do we incarcerate in our Bastilles? Didn’t Trayvon have the right to stand his ground? Hard to do when a gun is brought to a fist fight. Technically the six women on the jury followed the law. Not guilty has never meant innocent. Le jour de gloire n’est pas arrivé.

Back in France, Maureen Dowd is checking out historic women’s underwear at the Museum of Decorative Arts. Corsets, hoops. Lingerie. Which I pointed out, les citoyens de l’USA can’t pronounce. Hint. It doesn’t rhyme with USA.

Djokers Wild

A tale of two Djoks. A Serbian tennis star. Class act after losing to the sullen Scot. Quite a different path, Novak from Djokhar Tsarnaev, Chechnan terrorist.

77 years on 7/7 for a Brit Wimbledon win. Perry, ’36. You won, Andy! Would it kill you to smile? Looked like you lost. Lackluster tournament all around.

However…plenty of steamy family frivolity over the weekend. Somebody liked our new pocket hose. Don’t ask. photo-34

Bday Break

Weekend birthday-palooza. Cuzins celebrations. Happy to Lindzer, Colbyjoe, mAdBen. Soon Grandma Carolee. Checking out new digs for Grande Dame of the Upper West Side and Westchester MadPad. Quail at Gramercy Tavern. Yum.

Need a break from social issues, the Supremes, thug pro athletes, dirty old men making hot witnesses prance around the courtroom, grilling Precious. Stay cool.

Fathers Matter

Dads are not superfluous. Paternal love and guidance matters everyday to the happiness and success of sons and daughters alike. Gary, Joe3, Philip, Ellis, Joe2, Joe1, William Patrick, Milton Strahl. Great fathers all.

Proof is in the pudding. Happy Fathers Day.

Or in the pasta. Father’s Day Colitti Spaghetti~ recipedetours

Meh Men

MadMen6. Sylvia again? Meh. She is an ugly woman. In more ways than one. So is her son. How much does poor Sally have to endure? Megan is looking better every week. Peggy trades in men for a cat. Always the pragmatist. She couldn’t bear to tell Pete about his Mom’s real stumble onto their real child together. Whatever happened to that kid? Bob has bad gay-dar. Ted is too nice. Don is descending into the abyss. No kiss can undo the damage done this week.

Why didn’t we watch the Tony’s or stay with Game of Thrones?

Strange Bedfellows

Ted Cruz, Rand Paul cozying up to Al Gore & Paul Begala? Dianne Feinstein & Lindsey Graham siding together. NeoCons snuggling with big government Dems. Unlikely couples sliding down slippery slopes. For those who hold security more sacred than civil liberties, monitoring our records is great. Depends who has control of drones over our homes. Could be found on GoogleEarth, anyway.

So, who is more intrusive, private sector advertisers or the NSA? If you have a phone and a computer, you can’t hide under the bed anymore.
