Lacey powder. A whitish blanket covering grass and roof. Kristmas krackers were particularly laden this year. Colitti confetti everywhere. Cuzins cuter than ever. Wasn’t last Kristmas a minute ago? Happy and Merry to all!
Kristmas Eves
Lots of eves. Long Kristmas weekend. Sinatra helps us trim the post-modern plastic tree. Ornaments. Each has a history. Anne’s Santa, Pear, Penguin. Sylvia’s antiques from Surrey, England. Grandma’s aqua MadMen-era. Joe’s Beefeater gin. Bells, angels, crystal icicles. Fillamento SanFrancisco FatherKristmas topper. Joyful art of gift wrap. It’s all about the packaging.
Traditions are comforting. Lobster Newburg. Who does that anymore? Dates back decades. Pats, Niners. Palate cleansers. Cathy’s cannoli and crackers. Paper crowns and Colitti Confetti. They still rhyme in our world.
CaShew!
‘Tis the season for fortunate Cashews. The Catholic-Jewish combo produces spoiled but beautiful children.
Hanukkah, Chanukah. 8 nights of presents, gelt (money), dreidels, dancing. Gathered ’round the table, they get lots of treats. Zovy-boom and vodka. No, that’s not it. Candles shed their sweet light to remind them of days long ago. Transliterations and latkes. Bah-rook, no toy? They’re annoyed. Happy Menorah-kah.
Then in a coupla weeks, they get Kristmas. Oy.
Stuffington Day 2012
Thanksgiving for wonderful family gathering! Slide show.
Stuffington Post Time
Stuffington prep. I’m assigned my mushroom sausage stuffing. Homemade hot and sweet meat from Frigo’s in Springfield’s South End. Our local version of Little Eataly in an old neighborhood hard hit by last year’s tornado. This year’s holiday hostess, JeanJean will deconstruct a turkey in Jacques and Julia’s way.
Family gathering in a week. Bed & Breakfast will be full. Yay!
Weekend Soul
When you get older. Silvery hair. I’d never lock the door. Birthday greetings. Bottle of wine. Sunday SideTreks. Go for a ride. Who could ask for more? I will still need you. I will still feed you. When you’re … Siempre. Mi amor.
Beatles notwithstanding, Billy Joel’s song at concert last night for hurricane Sandy victims. That’s soul. Voice richer than ever. Lyrics perfect. Off to LumberYard in Amherst with Lilly’s abuelitos. Extra hour of sleep.
Sister Chic
Happy 80 Grandma!
Love & Marriage
Go together like a horse and carriage. Can’t have one without the other. Fine. I personally do not care if men marry women, women marry men, women marry women, men marry men. Local gentry can make it elementary. All I care about is that if you have kids, be parents first. That rarely seems to happen. Live together. Get married. Whatever. Just take care of your kids if you have them!
Happy EastOver!
Happy Easter. Passover. Cashews unite! Seder at Sue’s. Egg hunt in Pound Ridge with Ari Fleischer. Whaddya gonna do? Red buds blooming. Weeping cherry, too.
Will Sergio win his first major? I’m still betting on Rory. Tiger self-destructing, can he turn it around? Then there’s always Phil. Go, Freddie, still a kid at 52.
