ETreks-Dogs vs. Rings

Watching the Westminster Dog Show is far more entertaining than bouncing back and forth from pairs skating, commercials, back stories, to downhill skiing and boarding so far.  Most of the dogs are cuter than the athletes to date.  Best in Show tonight!

Favorite New Eateries: Local – Blue House Cafe, Williamsburg, black bean burritos, tortilla melts in your mouth; Amherst Chinese Food, Main Street, local fresh ingredients, no “hangover” from chemicals.  NYC –  Morandi, West Village, fun casual people watching, not glitzy, great meatballs, http://www.tripadvisor.com/tablesedge – see the review; Flex Mussels, Upper East Side, new, happening, fresh clams.  What are your new favorites, where?

  1. Nothing better than dogs. I miss having all of the Olympics in one year every four. I just can’t get interested. No help with restaurants, although I did have pizza in a Boston sports club (tavern on the square?)–goat cheese, arugula, and a balsalmic reduction sauce–pretty damn good. Calzones from Frigo’s(Springfield)–amazing . India Palace in Northampton–very good. Maybe I’m eating out more than I thought.

  2. Nice to watch the dogs…on TV.
Going to Sfoglia near 92nd St Y after Malcolm Gladwell tonight. (Yes, I’m his #1 stalker.) Restaurant said to be ‘very nice – akin to W. Village ‘. Hmmm, hip Buffy in leather headband?! It’s a joooooooke

  3. Deb- we ate at Sfoglia 2 weeks ago before going to see Mika and Joe at the 92nd St Y.
Second time I have there. Food is very creative and good.
Ask to be seated in the main room as their new auxillary room is not as warm and inviting and I did not like being seated there but we were on a time schedule because of talk at Y.
    hope you enjoy!

  4. Who in the hell is Malcolm Gladwell and how do you get to be one? On the Olympics…. It’s the one time in four years you can see these sports. I find it interesting and quite frankly it’s better than watching these money hungry professional athletes. Ya I said that and yes I will continue to watch NBA, MLB, NFL etc but a nice break from them for awhile.

      1. Not in the winter Olympics. Name one (current) Olympian other than Apolo Ohno that you have seen in a commercial that wasn’t for the Olympics.

These guys are generally poor ski/curling bums from Colorado/Vermont and this is the only chance they get to shine on the world stage.

    1. From the article you just cited:

“Our list of the highest-earning athletes of the Winter Olympic looks at earnings derived from prize money, endorsements, licensing income and bonuses for the 2009 calendar year and does not deduct for taxes or agents’ fees. All salaried professional athletes, specifically National Hockey League players, were excluded from the list.”

    1. Oh…I saw it, Joe. They had the dye in the 1980s.

As for the “fan”…the 10th-highest earning winter Olympian made $1 million in 2009 at the height of their careers. I advise you to look up the average salary of players in American professional sports (or any of players in the big leagues across the world such as soccer, cricket, etc.)

  5. It was only a matter of time before they’d succumb to a full on family rant. But so enjoyable, don’t you think?!! (I was out being Gladwellian’d or would have been right there in the trenches).
Yes Joe, I shouldn’t have stopped at Dick and Jane. Another lifelong regret…
Eileen, Sfoglia was great. That hot brick pressed chicken was D-vine, not to mention the caramel bread pudding. Oh dear, a yoga class won’t begin to touch that.

  6. About the Amherst Chinese Rest. After great dinner and superb company, I had a siting of my own. There, in the parking lot in the center of Amherst, I viewed a Valentines Eve hump a lump 2 cars away from mine. What a great night!!!!!

You should decrease your bounce rate in order to rank in google.
