Midnight Oasis

As we bid so long to summer this week, the harvest moon rose over the high desert’s kingdom of Nye in the great American southwest. After a long drought, Art Bell’s voice has softened with age as he broadcasts from his lone trailer. Sirius XM. Soothing to know he’s there in the dark once again. Send your camels to bed.

Another mass shooting’s sad perpetual ritual of teddy bears, balloons and flowers at tragic site, empty symbols of lawmakers’ inaction. The focus instead is on Benghazi, defunding Obamacare. Washington a vast wasteland. It’s scary when Assad sounds like the most rational guy on the planet. Guess cuz he was sitting across from crazy Kucinich. No wonder escaping into space is so appealing.

Party Joe

Lobster, steamers, little necks, oysters, shrimp, salmon, corn-on-the-cob. All in one glorious day. Yay. Celebrating Joey3Sticks’ big 50 out in his new MadPad backyard for a traditional ClamBake. Happy Birthday, BroJoe! You can’t see the seafood, because we ate it all including the shells. Yum! Fun! Thanks Alicat.photo-19

Zipped from Westchester into the City for a visit to BetseyL to bring her a Chrome, which she’s already mastered. Drive-by rendez-vous with GemQueen, then home for the 3rdQ of the brothers’ bowl. Eli lost. Ugly football all weekend, at least JoeyPa(n)t’s Pats pulled out a messy win. Sorry 9ers fans.

Dalliances

Absurd alliances. Global shift. Ted Cruz and Katrina vanden Heuvel agree on what U.S. should do about Syria. Really. Rand Paul, too. Has the world gone completely mad? Charles Blow thinks so. Putin writes a column in the NYTimes, encouraging appeasement. It’s better than bombast and bombs. Vatican leads a peace march. Pope Francis puts Goodness over Godliness. Going mad in the right way, I say. It does give me pause when Armed Services Committee and Generals don’t know the difference between a weapons cache and caché.

Naomi Watts looks more like Tina Brown than Princess Di. Performance panned. Probably why. End of the line for Burn Notice and Breaking Bad. Tiger playing at BMW. Hope Lindsey’s dalliances won’t make him sad. Cool weekend!

Space Quiz

Is it Art Bell entering our atmosphere early? No. Is it an alien attack? No. It’s the hourglass cage-like structure just down the street from mAdBen on the Hudson. Million Second Quiz with Ryan Seacrest. That’s my final answer.

Thank goodness, our fave Lure Fishbar is saved!

Forking Around

New London to Orient Point Ferry Cross Sound. Our circular tour around Long Island’s North and South Forks. Lunched at BlueCanoe on Greenport’s dock. Fried local oysters. Took scenic Route 25 past wineries reminiscent of Napa in the early ’80’s, before they jammed the valley and the byways. To Peconic Lane, and NorthFound, a trove of treasures from around the globe.

Drove down to Riverhead and up the South Fork through the Hamptons to our perennial beachfront haunt in Napeague. Favorite Clam Bar was almost blown away by a violent thunder storm the day we arrived, and we found it closed. Oh no! But, next morning all was well. IMG_0703Several days of perfect weather, lobster, little necks fresh from the sea. Had to end sometime. Took three ferries from Sag Harbor to Shelter Island to Greenport back to Cross Sound. It sure was fun forking around.

Trek Stir

JeanJean won $30 at the Saratoga track. Birthday horse came in.
Ogilvy got the ETrade account. Happier babies now. Congrats.
Motown’s Jesse Nager hugged NYGiant-Strahan. Upset JoeyPa(n)ts.
Lucky little Prince has a Grandma Carole. Like mAdBen and his cuzins.
Hope BoyGeorge won’t stutter. No matter. He’ll still give a good speech.
Carlos’ weiner not so dangerous it seems. Still won’t leave the hot dog stand. Moose loose in next town, Easthampton. Sweet squash from Merry’s Mum garden. Zucchinetti Colitti  tomorrow.

Moon Baby

Under the Thunder Full Moon, on the last day of Cancer, July 22, Prince of Cambridge arrives. His Daddy Wills was born on the first day of the Sun sign, June 21. Kate a bit late in changing the weekend mood on the links in Scotland. But, baby was smart enough to emerge on a famous GemQueen’s royal birthday.

Name roulette. Francis is Kate’s father’s middle name, as Frances was Diana’s. Pope beat them to it. I’m going with George William Philip Windsor.

Gorge-ous Trek

Monday summer trek. Along General Lafayette Trail, Route 143 West, up hills and down vales to Ireland Street in Chesterfield, Mass. Take a right toward the Westfield River and then… a natural wonderment surprise. Chesterfield Gorge. More photos on TravelTreks.

Allons Enfants

Or not. Some cannot. Who do we incarcerate in our Bastilles? Didn’t Trayvon have the right to stand his ground? Hard to do when a gun is brought to a fist fight. Technically the six women on the jury followed the law. Not guilty has never meant innocent. Le jour de gloire n’est pas arrivé.

Back in France, Maureen Dowd is checking out historic women’s underwear at the Museum of Decorative Arts. Corsets, hoops. Lingerie. Which I pointed out, les citoyens de l’USA can’t pronounce. Hint. It doesn’t rhyme with USA.
