Sultry Engagements

Off-Broadway Uptown Play. Engagements by Lucy Teitler. Three separate engagement parties as backdrop to betrayal and subterfuge in farcical ménage à cinq vignettes. Fast-paced laced with allusions to Victorian literature. Excellent 5-character cast. Michael Stahl-David as Mark will be Bobby Kennedy to Woody Harrelson’s LBJ in Rob Reiner’s new movie. Fun.

Sultry antidote. Watermelon recipes. Refreshing. Recently at Jean-Georges’ Nougatine, had a simple watermelon and goat cheese salad. Superb.

Nice Fishes

Pisces wishes. Come true. Celebrated a new CPW venue. Good year for fishes. Flatiron Gramercy Tavern striped bass. Fab. UWS Crave Fishbar fewer stars. DUMBO hipster cool SuperFine bar. Fun with family. All.

Recent Oscar-winner Mark Rylance in St. Ann’s Warehouse Nice Fish. Minnesota ice fishing meets absurdiste treat. Missed the Spielberg’s by a night or two. They also approved.

Scaffolds Scar NYC

There has been an explosion of steel scaling sides of buildings all over New York City. Restaurants. Hotels. Residential buildings. These metal webs remain installed not for months but for years. It’s a new era of blight causing claustrophobic tunnels shrouding sidewalks from the sun and blocking New York’s historical architectural beauty.

Just found out that one of our favorite Upper West Side seafood restaurants Ocean Grill  has closed. Entrance-obstructing scaffolding has left former sidewalk diners and customers at bay since 2012.

What the hell?

Allergy Upside Down Cake

New York State recently approved allowing dogs to share outdoor dining spaces with human customers. It’s more like Paris! So, what could be wrong with that?

Modern menus solicit food allergy alerts. Gluten-free fare is everywhere. No smoking anywhere. So, why is there this new fad of allowing pets at eateries? And hotels. And airplanes. Confined places where an unwitting patron could lose his air. 15% of the population is allergic to dogs and cats, 30% of those with asthma are allergic to pets. Don’t pet allergy sufferers have rights, too?

Oh. And your 60 lb. yellow lab that splayed itself over half of an enclosed Upper West Side sidewalk café? That’s another story. Slurp. Poop. Jump. Pant.

Back to Future II

2015 the “future” when movie came out in 1989. It’s here. Constellations clear.

Turn of the calendar at Side Trek Falls. West End Pub’s crunchy grilled sandwiches overlooking Bridge of Flowers. Turkey with kim chee. Ham and cheese with chipotle sauce. Broccoli slaw with dried cranberries zesty refresh. photo-57-4

Visit to Wandering Moon jewelry. Laura Roberson’s artistry and collections afford auld lang silver cheer. photo-59-2

Did Jerry Jones pay off ref to pull pass interference call? Ask Chris Christie.

New York Eve

New Year’s Weekend Eve. Bar Boulud. So good. Telepan. Pretty bland. Dovetail serene. Too much bread, wine and cheese in between.

Constellations. Choice. Chance. Life. Death. Infinity. Balloons. Strings. Theoretical astrophysics. Bees. Jake Gyllenhaal. Ruth Wilson. New play in previews on Broadway. Thought-provoking show. Genius concept. Staccato scenes. Masterclass acting. Stellar directing. Gazing up from the front row.

Rape of the leaves. Construction next door.
Sochi Olympics. Return of Putin.
Crying Wolfowitz. Right-wing and media fear-mongering.
Ebola.

Side Posto

Marathon weekend. Dr.Husband’s birthday always overlaps with New York’s longest race. Breaking news. A Kenyan won! High winds almost blew runners and farmers market away. Kevlar and squash prevailed.

Del Posto dining experience surpasses. Freshest food with creativity chiave. Lidia Bastianich matriarch of Gotham’s tavola Italiana. Cacciucco di Livorno. Another version of seafood stew. Sauce sublime. Meaty pasta with lamb neck ragù.

Peyton Manning v. Tom Brady. Stats aligned. Discordant score. Niners out. Tomorrow Stray honored. Giants #92.

Fall Peaks

Unique Saturday late-night sushi summit at Nakazawa on quaint village Commerce Street. No wasabi shmears nor soy sauce here. Purist omakase only. Skipjack, mackerel, scallops, uni taste as if they’d just jumped out of the sea onto the simple chic plates. A quiet table at the back window enhanced the 20-piece folie. Rumored to have been enjoyed also by Pitt and Jolie.

Twin Peaks return? Laura Palmer said she’d see us in 25 years. It’s here. Ray Wise, Leland Palmer is currently playing a cult leader on Y&R soap. So, he’s available. Calling David Lynch. Can’t wait. Meanwhile, Homeland is back. Carrie escapes dreaded motherhood, off to Afghanistan as Brody’s baby clone Frannie stays back home. Sociopaths on both sides of the terrorist conflict.

Pats, Giants and Niners win. We’ll take what we can get. Don’t celebrate yet.
