Les Enfants

Let’s try this again. Happy New Year. As re-elected Speaker Boehner cries his way into another stalemate, maybe he can pass a funding bill for hurricane Sandy victims. Les enfants terribles are still squabbling in the congressional sandbox. Same cast. Pelosi, McConnell, Reid, Boehner and their ornery obdurate brats.

Let’s focus on the positive. Adelaide Parker’s star was born over the year’s turn. Congrats to PithyV & Co. And, a special thanks to JeanJean the rescue queen. All’s well that ends well.

Comity Cliff

Déjà vu all over again. Ground hog day. Take your pick. Here we go, again. Over the cliff. No comity on the horizon. Just bad jokes as the tragi-comedy for the economy unfolds. Then another debt ceiling comedy show in a couple of weeks.

So, enjoy the New Year, a fresh foot of snow. Football. Movies on-demand. Surprisingly, I didn’t hate Ted . It had some tender moments. And The Guard, set in Ireland was good. Bought season 1 of Homeland for a marathon into 2013.

Divine Comity

Deus ex machina our only hope? Divine intervention to create some semblance of comity in congress. So far, just comedy of errors. If Jon Stewart and Bill O’Reilly can coexist, there must be a god out there somewhere. January pay checks will not be funny. Even Tea Partiers won’t be laughing. Game, set, match. Fiscal cliff. Obama tax bill. Hahahahaha. Comity Central coming soon.

Lots of eves. Long Kristmas weekend. Sinatra helps us trim the post-modern plastic tree. Ornaments. Each has a history. Anne’s Santa, Pear, Penguin. Sylvia’s antiques from Surrey, England. Grandma’s aqua MadMen-era. Joe’s Beefeater gin. Bells, angels, crystal icicles. Fillamento SanFrancisco FatherKristmas topper. Joyful art of gift wrap. It’s all about the packaging.

Traditions are comforting. Lobster Newburg. Who does that anymore? Dates back decades. Pats, Niners. Palate cleansers. Cathy’s cannoli and crackers. Paper crowns and Colitti Confetti. They still rhyme in our world.

Newtown Opposes Military Assault Weapons. Ban rifles rigged for maximum mass carnage. This is a cause that could change the culture as MADD did. Families of victims of Sandy Hook are the only ones who have the right to start such a movement. It’s too soon, now. An idea for the future. A new lobby to be formed by all affected by automatic gun murders to counter the NRA. There is no reason to have access to ammunition clips that can kill 20 kids in 2 minutes. No more.

And another thing. Get the media out of Newtown. Enough already.
