Amy Emerges

New Hampshire primary stunner. Klobuchar took out Senate sister Warren in her own backyard. Amy came out of nowhere. Debate performance boost. Where does she go from here? In the South?

Pete & Bernie stay the course from Iowa and remain top two. Ornery Joe out. Bloomberg still spending in swing states and Trump amassing crowds. MSNBC is talking about William Barr and Roger Stone. What?!

Bloomberg Rising

Bloomberg has his own money. He will be beholden to no special interest groups. Nor lobbyists. So. What’s the problem, Bernie?

Onward to South Carolina. Insulting voters of color by lumping them into one basket not good, Joe. Maybe they are individuals with minds of their own. And. It seems some like Mike. More every day.

Now third in the national polls. A successful real billionaire businessman and great mayor of NYC.  Who better to manage the country?

Meanwhile. Betcha Amy will win Dixville Notch.

Bye Bye Biden

Imagine folksy old Joe delivering a stem-winder speech like Trump did at the State of the Union last night. Criminal Justice. Jobs. It was an over the top Oprah-esque reality TV show. You get a scholarship. You get medals. You get a reunion with your military dad.

Pelosi didn’t help matters. She seemed even more petty than our Petulant Adolescent President. Tearing up his speech and such. Plus. The Iowa fiasco showed Biden’s electability to be a myth. So. Bye bye Joe.

Who won the Iowa fiasco?   NYTimes Pick.

SOTU Tippling

There’s a State of the Union speech tonight? Wedged in between Iowa chaos and Impeachment vote. Okay. So. Take a sip every time:

Nancy looks like she’s sucking on a lemon
Trump says he is great and best ever
Democrats sit on their hands & boo
Republicans stand & clap
Pence stares adoringly at Trump and nods
Adam Schiff scowls and eyes bug out

Another night. Another show. Have fun!

Iowa Debacle

Iowa Caucuses. Done. Yet no results as of midnight. Old luddites cannot count ballots. There’s a new app? It makes Florida’s hanging chads look good. Puts the whole future electoral process at risk of losing the confidence of all Americans. Must be them Russians again.

It’s rigged, I tell ya. I can hear Bernie now. And maybe Pete. Folksy Joe’s peeps are seething. So results were “delayed”.   Whatta mess.

But. Hey. Amy stepped up and was a leader who didn’t wait for the incompetents. First up to address her supporters.  A+

Good news is. It took Schiffty Schiff off the tube!

Primary Colors

Onward. Superbowl over. Impeachment, too. Time to finally focus on the election season. Iowa caucuses the first. A mostly old mainly white group of voters who gather in corners of gyms and halls. Bernie or Joe? Lefty left or center? Are polls accurate at all?

On to New Hampshire. Another old white State. New England rather than the heartland. But still. Finally get to the South. Where more colors will show up. As the primaries play out, can a short rich Jew parachute into the fray? And take the mantle of the adult in the room? We’ll see.

On another note. Marcus King’s El Dorado album is fabulous.

Glaring Light of Day

Now that the delusional Democrat diversions are over. Russian collusion. Ukraine-gate. The bright light is shining on Iowa. And. It’s clear that none of these candidates can beat Trump. Bernie? In the general election? No way. Joe is loved. He is just not very smart. Nor articulate. Nor does he have a real message besides he’s not Trump.

So. Mike Bloomberg is the only hope. But. Not sure if he’ll play in Peoria. Yup. We’re screwed.

Dénouement

Lamar Alexander says no on witnesses. So. Senate impeachment trial of Donald Trump. Finally over. Before we are blessedly released from its capture by the media, let’s grade the players.

Best in show – House Manager Hakeem Jeffries and President’s Counsel Patrick Philbin. Losers – loquaciously righteous Manager Adam Schiff and President’s Counsel Alan Dershowitz. Most intelligent questions – Senator Sinema, Arizona. Nastiest questions – Senator Warren, Massachusetts. Chief Justice Roberts a perfectly reticent arbiter. Although arcane, the process was quaintly civil. Let’s go with that.

Hilarious capper to the whole show. Jerry Nadler waddling up to the mic to close the deal under the clear protest of Schiff. Yup. Just shut him up.

Back to Reality

In Genoa City, Wisconsin or Port Charles, New York fictional families are dealing with daily trials and tribulations with the requisite melodramatic overlay. But. Nobody can see that. As the Senate trial drones on, nothing else is anywhere to be seen.

Like. Bernie Sanders still surging in Iowa. So. He could be the nominee. What would that mean for the country? Or. Coronavirus spreads. How will that affect the global economy?

Bottom line. Trump keeps amassing crowds. He won’t be removed from office. That’s the reality ignored now for weeks.

Throwback Saturday

On a Side Trek in May of 2016 happened upon this house in Hatfield, Massachusetts with two lawn signs side-by-side. Trump. Bernie.

Today Bernie Sanders is in the lead in Iowa polls. Trump is a defendant in the Senate trial accused of obstruction of Congress and abuse of power. Yet. Will likely be acquitted and run for re-election.

The more things change. The more they stay the same. In November 2016, I wrote in Mike Bloomberg for President. Let’s hope he’s actually on the ballot in 2020.
