49er Vortex

Not saying it’s about me. But. We moved to San Francisco in 1982. That was the first time the Niners & Joe Montana went to the Big Game. Again in 1985 when we went to the game at Stanford in Palo Alto. So foggy couldn’t see the ball, and they beat the Dolphins. Then in 1989, six months before mAd Ben was born. Jerry v. Cincinnati. In 1990 they annihilated the Broncos 55-10.

In 1995 just as we left the City by the Bay, Steve Young trounced the San Diego Chargers in Miami, same field as tomorrow. Yay. They haven’t been at the SB since then. Downhill after we moved away.

Don’t look at my predictions from December.  Just my predilections.  And remember. It’s not about me.  Go Niners!!!!

Glaring Light of Day

Now that the delusional Democrat diversions are over. Russian collusion. Ukraine-gate. The bright light is shining on Iowa. And. It’s clear that none of these candidates can beat Trump. Bernie? In the general election? No way. Joe is loved. He is just not very smart. Nor articulate. Nor does he have a real message besides he’s not Trump.

So. Mike Bloomberg is the only hope. But. Not sure if he’ll play in Peoria. Yup. We’re screwed.

Dénouement

Lamar Alexander says no on witnesses. So. Senate impeachment trial of Donald Trump. Finally over. Before we are blessedly released from its capture by the media, let’s grade the players.

Best in show – House Manager Hakeem Jeffries and President’s Counsel Patrick Philbin. Losers – loquaciously righteous Manager Adam Schiff and President’s Counsel Alan Dershowitz. Most intelligent questions – Senator Sinema, Arizona. Nastiest questions – Senator Warren, Massachusetts. Chief Justice Roberts a perfectly reticent arbiter. Although arcane, the process was quaintly civil. Let’s go with that.

Hilarious capper to the whole show. Jerry Nadler waddling up to the mic to close the deal under the clear protest of Schiff. Yup. Just shut him up.

Back to Reality

In Genoa City, Wisconsin or Port Charles, New York fictional families are dealing with daily trials and tribulations with the requisite melodramatic overlay. But. Nobody can see that. As the Senate trial drones on, nothing else is anywhere to be seen.

Like. Bernie Sanders still surging in Iowa. So. He could be the nominee. What would that mean for the country? Or. Coronavirus spreads. How will that affect the global economy?

Bottom line. Trump keeps amassing crowds. He won’t be removed from office. That’s the reality ignored now for weeks.

Zzz Rated

Ratings tanked for daily diatribes of Schiff & Co. Major networks average 3 million daytime viewers. 1 million for the marathon Senate Trial. In a moment of rare lucidity CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin said, “If you are winning, shut up.”  Schiff didn’t get that memo.

Tribes are not moved to watch the other side in any event. As a commenter in the New York Times wrote, “I was glued to every minute of the House Managers but I cannot bring myself to watch the President’s defense team.” A partisan political exercise pure and simple.

Throwback Saturday

On a Side Trek in May of 2016 happened upon this house in Hatfield, Massachusetts with two lawn signs side-by-side. Trump. Bernie.

Today Bernie Sanders is in the lead in Iowa polls. Trump is a defendant in the Senate trial accused of obstruction of Congress and abuse of power. Yet. Will likely be acquitted and run for re-election.

The more things change. The more they stay the same. In November 2016, I wrote in Mike Bloomberg for President. Let’s hope he’s actually on the ballot in 2020.

Deus Ex Machina

A white ball appears from the sky in the midst of Torrey Pines on the Southern California coastline. Tiger! Rory! Ricky! Even Phippy! Huh? Yes. Golf saves us from impeachment droning for four days. Praise the Lord.

Speaking of God. The New Pope is a bizarre arty trip which should be watched under the influence of something. And. Messiah continued to stretch spiritual and geopolitical boundaries. Season 2 assured.

Untoward Torture

What did we do to deserve this? The American people did nothing wrong. Why are we being subjected to this extended torture? Days upon days of blathering bluster. Repetitive regurgitations of mindless muddle. The Senate Impeachment Trial.

House Managers. For 3 days. After a marathon yesterday. After hearing them for days in the House. Cannot abide Schiff or Nadler for another minute. As poor Lizzie, Bernie & Amy are stuck there kept from the campaign trail. Lucky Joe. Luckier Trump. And Mike!

Thanks to Book Club for a much needed diversion. Purple Hibiscus good or bad will be a godsend.

Here We Go Again!

Everything old is new again. Bill’s former foes and friends. Ken Starr. Alan Dershowitz. Doddering Senators who were there during the Lewinsky case. America’s erstwhile beloved Mayor Rooody.

Senate Impeachment Trial begins today. Trump is fiddling in Davos while Rome burns. As Mayor Mike stays out of fray to mount a race. Oy vey. The Boys Club never seems to go away.
