UWS Sweep

Here’s to all the UWS sufferers who lose parking spaces for the sake of TV shows. Amy Sherman Palladino gave you your due (Dr. Husband).

She acknowledged those who make the frequent sacrifice on tonight’s Emmy’s. Her brilliant Amazon Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was the street sweeper. A blinking light in an otherwise dismally dim show.

Killing Eve robbed. SNL loser. But. Yay. Henry Winkler. Peter Dinklage. Claire Foy. Bill Hader. Game of Thrones.

Grand Stands

Cory Booker claimed I Am Spartacus during the Kavanaugh confirmation hearing. More like Dorkacus. At least pronounce the name of the ranking member of the Judiciary Committee who has been in public life for over five decades. Dianne Feinstein. Not Fein-steen. Pathetic.

Nicolle Wallace & Steve Schmidt on MSNBC today rationalizing hiding Sarah Palin’s obvious mental health issues when she was John McCain’s running mate. The excuse not to out McCain’s politically expedient yet negligent pick? That he’d lose the election after the financial crisis of 2008. So much wrong about that by all concerned.

Oh and Tiger shot a 62 at the BMW. So did Rory. Woo hoo.

Sunday Scenes

Today’s final pairing at Ridgewood, NJ. Keegan Bradley & Bryson DeChambeau. Why aren’t they constantly on the clock? As they painstakingly perseverate over lining up each shot, there’s plenty of time to take a long walk around the block.

Never know who or what you’ll see. A visiting star from the great beyond. Or. A guy shlepping his flea market furniture find home. Only in NYC!

Unapologetic Polemicist

I do like to stir the pot. Jump into the fray with both feet. Love debating prevailing biases on the news of the day. Here of course on Side Trek. Also frequently comment on NY Times & Washington Post. Where I usually get labeled a Republican. Or worse. A Trump-sympathizer. Now I’ve added The Wall Street Journal to the list. Just got called a Democrat Woman yesterday. Of all things! Nobody knows what to do with my views. Family on both sides think I play for the other team. So to speak. That’s good. Keeps ’em all on their toes.

Trolling Truth

Pope Francis finally addressed the Catholic Church’s truth in a letter to his global flock. Admitting that there was institutional abandonment of its vulnerable children. Too little too late for decades of victims. But. A good start. Still. How many priests are in jail for committing obvious sexual predator crimes?

WSJ’s great sports columnist, Jason Gay poses a question. If you owned an NFL team today would you sell it or hold on to the investment? Given injuries, political controversies, player misconduct, lagging attendance, tv ratings. What would you do?

Melania Trump sporting a pussy bow as she headlines a cyber bullying conference. First First Lady Troller-in-Chief.

Moon Escape

To escape the news of the day, why not take A Trip to the Moon? Colby J. Herchel’s One Act Play based on a movie by Georges Méliès. Performed last night at Winslow Bar in the East Village. Herchel’s wistful book and joyful lyrics with song stylings by Julia Feinberg spot-on. A subtle comedic tone set by Nathanael Taylor. Tour de Force just Off-Broadway. Bien fait!

Pepsi Generation Moms

As PepsiCo’s CEO Indra Nooyi’s tenure comes to a close, business and personal questions collide. Shareholder growth vs. stability. She afforded the latter to the company, yet according to her it suffered at home. Indra said being a mom is a full-time job and she couldn’t do both well. Her daughter as much as told her so. When one of the few women in the Fortune 500’s dwindling list of C-Suite female leads says that, it’s a blow. Even if true. Something’s gotta give.

Warren vs. Warren

In dueling New York Times columns, Bret Stephens outlines how Trump is re-elected in 2020; David Leonhardt’s subsequent rebuttal details how Trump is defeated in 2020. Both choose Elizabeth Warren as the Presidential Candidate of the Democrats. Stephens has Sherrod Brown as her running mate and they lose. Leonhardt puts Eric Holder on the ticket with her and they win. If you ask me, the common denominator is a major flaw in both scenarios. Warren’s nomination would be a disaster for the Dems even if Trump imploded.

Bottom line. Trump abdicates to build a hotel in Tblisi. Pence becomes a nun. Warren still could not beat any Republican candidate in a 2020 run.
