LaLyd’s San Francisco faves: Benu, SOMA, chef from French Laundry. Frances, Perello in the Castro. Quince, not sure how it translates to new locale, was favorite of ours in Pacific Heights. Spruce love it, trendy spot in Presidio Heights. Here are the top 100 recent picks, including Oakland and the East Bay.

A Cote and Plum are the hot spots in Oakland. Just a BART stop or two away across the Bay in SF are standards that still salivate after all these years, Boulevard and One Market. For our money, Slanted Door in the Ferry Building, again a stone’s throw across the bay from Oakland, worth a trip from Western Mass. Each dish is a memorable Asian delicacy. Down the Embarcadero to Four, Dane Boryta, local Hilltown grown, original of ertswhile Circa in Northampton, is Executive Chef at Sens. SoAnnie Pants, lots to chew on!

  1. Just saw this article and thought it might be interesting to tell you that Liz and I (Dane) are currently renovating the Washington Square Bar and Grill at 1707 Powell Street in North Beach. We bought it a couple of months ago and will be opening in June as “Bottle Cap” – with a Plainfield, MA, native – Pete Gowdy as Bar Manager.

      Congrats! Next time we are in SF we will stop by. Best to you and Liz. We used to go to Ed Moose’s old Wash Sq B&G. Our son Ben is graduating from NYU on a different Wash Square in a couple of weeks.
