Shifting faults. Germany can’t hold together tectonic States. Euro on the brink. Asia shaky. America reverberating from shock waves of government dysfunction. Confidence cratering. Liquidity tight long term. Banks, large corporations doing more with less. Big profits. Sitting on cash. Where to put it? What’s going to replace dinosaur industries? There’s nothing on the horizon to mend the cracks. The world is flat, a whole earth economy. It’ll be quite a while ’til the global aftershocks subside. Market value 10,500.

I sound like Art Bell. It’s the end of the world. Well, it might be until at least 2012. Then, either the Mayans are right, or there will be a new seismic bubble.

S&P Downgrade? Who is the least qualified to cast judgment? Rating Agencies. See Paul Krugman’s litany here. I agree. See SideBizness.

BuzzOff

The noises of summer. As a writer, I’m hyper tuned-in. Bird songs rarely rise above the buzzing of saws, whacking of weeds, annihilation of grass. Loud, louder, loudest. Guys across the way have a full time hobby of hacking up trees then hauling them down the street all day. And don’t get me started with the beep beep beep when they back up. A fertilizer truck is idling outside my porch.

Hahahaha. I can hear all of you city folk thinking this is hilarious. Noise? I’ll give you noise. But for the love of silence, please just pass a clean debt ceiling bill and stop the madness outside! OK, I’m off to the home. (Where is it?)

Political crap. Obama gesticulates to the people, Boehner capitulates to the Tea Bags. Same song, different key. Are you kidding me? More noise, no progress. Dug in. Conflating debt due with spending. Stupidity rules. Only reason markets not having conniptions, no other place to invest.  A crash could be a catalyst for change. Debt ceiling deadline slipping. Credibility gone. Dissembling doody.

On a lighter note, Franco apes it up and The Help is coming to the screen. Last two Harry Potter movies mailed in. Since I didn’t read books, not sure if it was bad writing or adaptation. Either way, bore and snore. Joey3 introduced me to great sports writer, Rick Reilly of ESPN. Beautifully crafted essays on Tiger as bad role model for kids over the years. On the course. Before off. Spot on.

Debt ceiling debate. Doo doo and hypocrisy. Blah blah. C’mon congressional kids. Talking points-palooza while Rome burns. BS on one side, then raise you one BS cow-chip on the other. And so on and on. Statesmen needed. Has everybody lost his mind? Her mind? The cacophonous din endures. Rating agencies threaten to downgrade debt. Ooooh. Don’t scare us. Meanwhile jobs languish and will never come back. People suffer. This is not a recession like all others. It’s different and deep. Yet bloviating continues. Shut up. Do something.

Silly aside while the noisy boom box bangs on. Bachmann talks about ‘shits-pa’. First history, now Yiddish, oy.
